  Necessary defense: problems of theory and practice
  Abstract: The article analyzes the notion of necessary defense in the context of the criminal legislation of Russia, emphasizing its importance as a legal mechanism for protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.
  The author draws attention to the need for a clearer regulation of the conditions for the legality of harm, identifying evaluative concepts such as exceeding the limits of necessary defense and their ambiguity in the current norms.
  The author analyzes how the provisions and approaches to its regulation in criminal law have changed over time. Much attention is given to the difficulties arising in determining the legality of the defender"s actions. The article proposes a number of measures aimed at improving the legal framework. The author also focuses on the role of clarifications of the Plenum of the Supreme Court and the need to create methodological recommendations for assessing the legality of actions, which will have a positive impact on law enforcement practice.
  In conclusion, the author focuses on the need for further elaboration and clarification of legislative norms related to necessary defense, and suggests ways to improve law enforcement practice, which is important for ensuring justice and protecting the rights of citizens in conflicts.
