  Social movements as a reflection of polarization in Kyrgyz society on the example of the events of October 2020
  Social movements develop continuously within the framework of the development of society. It is because they are a significant force for bringing about the change that society needs. In doing so, they serve as a counterbalance to the dominant structures of the regime. The reason is that the latter cease to properly articulate the interests of citizens (Della Porta and Diani, 1999, p.5).
  Accordingly, the main question that is discussed throughout the development of this phenomenon is to understand whether social movements can take part in political strategy (Pessoa, 2009, p.60). In parallel, other questions arise, for example, can social movements go beyond self-interest and change reality (Hensmans & Van Bommel, 2018, p. 1).
  As these questions and the like arise, the approaches used to study social movements also change. Moreover, the approaches themselves are classified in different paradigms. One of the approaches is specified in the work of T.V. Pavlova (2009, p. 71-83). The author considers that the paradigms of studying this phenomenon have changed in the scientific community. The most attractive was the study of movements as a factor of institutional change in the political and sociocultural context.
  Due to the different conditions for the development of countries, specific processes take place in them, that also include social movements. The study of this issue is attractive from the point of view of finding patterns and differences. Within the framework of this direction, it serves as an example of the October 2020 event in Kyrgyzstan. The relevance of this study is determined by its specific features. As a result, the research question can be formulated as follows: ‘What is the essence of social movements, and their features in Kyrgyzstan in October 2020?’
