  Introduction
  
  The topic of this paper is the European Union’s economic policy in the former Soviet Union republics through the example of Ukraine.
  The specified state is taken as a basis of the topic of this work because of special geopolitical and economic location, which allows the European Union to establish economic and socio-political relations with Ukraine. The Soviet Union had broken up and Ukraine became one of unscathed states on the economic plane. Therefore, the European Union intends to have an impact on Ukraine’s political and economic development.
  Timeliness of the stated topic can be connected with challenges of the further political fate of Ukraine, since it is difficult to make any encouraging predictions concerning prospects of Ukraine in respect of the Eastern Partnership or some bilateral formats, because of recent dramatic events. Ukraine as a state is in thecollapse stage at the moment of execution of this paper. The Crimea joined the Russian Federation and the Donbas region became actually lost for the current government of Ukraine. That is why, further relations of Ukraine and the European Union will depend on political fate of Ukraine as a state, within the framework of either the Neighbourhood or the Eastern Partnership, or any bilateral format, including associate membership, since it will be another Ukraine in future. Thus, it is necessary to refer to historical backgrounds of interconnection of political and economic relations between Ukraine and the European Union. Herewith, the political assessments of intentions of the European Union or Ukraine are outside the topic of this paper, although they are determined in a varying degree as biased, critical or predetermined. Anyway, they are minimized in this work.

  1.1. The emergence of the European Union's Neighbourhood Policy and the preconditions of its Eastern dimension (2003-2005).
  
  The EuropeanNeighbourhoodPolicy (the ENP) represents a new approach of the European Union to neighbouring countries with the purpose of relationships strengthening between the European Union and its neighbours, as well as cooperation on creation of safety and well-being zone and “friendly countries circle” at the boundaries of the European Union. The ENP is also aimed at granting to neighbouring countries of the European Union of an opportunity of closer cooperation with the EU in the area of politics, security, economy and culture.
  The EuropeanNeighbourhoodPolicy – is apolicy of the EU in relation to countries which did not have any prospects of entrance into this organization in future for a number of reasons but which have common ground and sea borders. According to Brussels plans the NeighbourhoodPolicy will be able to have a positive influence on solution of region problems, it will conduce realization of a number of inner reforms in neighbouring countries. These reforms should attach neighbouring countries to the European standards of legal state functioning and liberal economy. This dimension got the name “europeanisation” in politological literature.
  There are three principal directions of europeanisation: europeanisation of member countries (deepening of integration), europeanisation of extension (europeanisation of candidates for entrance) and europeanisation of neighbourhood region (in relation to countries which don’t have certain membership prospects).
  Ukraine falls under the last category .
