  INTRODUCTION
  
  This course work is devoted to the actual topic, namely: “Divination in Russia”.
  The actuality of the present work is composed of at least by two of the following aspects.
  First of all, divination in Russia are an integral part of ancient culture that spans more than five centuries of the period of time that was difficult, complex, abounding ups and downs. Divination in Russia are the part of the global cultural process of the time and carries its basic typological features. But, as the true culture, it also has deeply personal appearance developing of set of common traits and spiritual, and creative life of people created it, merging into the great and powerful manifestations, which was actually the contribution of the old Russian state in a world civilization.
  Secondly, the study of history about a particular aspect of culture always has a certain value. A good example is a variety of old Russian divination that are used up to the present time.
  The object of the study is a socio-cultural development of the old Russian state.

  CHAPTER 1. DIVINATION IN RUSSIA AS THE ESSENTIAL PART OF THE ANCIENT CULTURE
  
  Ancient Russia, even up to the moment when it became the first states and principalities, was rich in various kinds of divination and predictions of the future.
  The main reasons for such diversity and high popularity of different wizards and fortune-tellers who practiced his art on the territory of Ancient Rus were as follows:
  - territorial position of the country, which at all times willingly absorbed the culture and traditions of Asia and Europe, between which it is located,
  - acquisitive mind of the Russian people, loving certainty and trying to understand the events around him .
  Every nation has its own customs and rituals. Among the many symbols and objects, a special place was given to various kinds of amulets and talismans. The Slavs had been given a considerable attention to their creation and use is treated with more understanding and knowledge of the case.
  Amulets and talismans of the Slavs are conditionally divided into two types:
  - in the form of figures and symbols,
  - various symbolic items.
