  As famous writer George Orwell says, England is not Shakespearean Emerald Island and not the underworld how doctor Goebbels depicts it… It is a house of Victorian model where all wardrobes are full of skeletons. This phrase expresses Great Britain with its unique customs and traditions very exactly.
  English customs are stipulated by the political system of the United Kingdom. It is known that in the United Kingdom there is no written constitution. There are only customs, traditions and precedents. That’s why both in political and social life British people have a lot of different traditions. And these traditions influence greatly on the British people themselves. If you must go to England, you have to know and to understand British culture.

  1. Analyses of British Traditions and Customs
  
  In order to analyze British traditions and customs, first of all we should say about British symbols. It should be noted that every country has its own symbols. For example, the main official, i.e. authorized by law, symbols of our country are the flag, emblem and anthem. Also we have many unofficial symbols such as, for instance, bear, vodka, Kalashnikov’s gun, etc.
  The most important symbols of Great Britain are the flag, the anthem and the royal coat of arms.
  The flag of Great Britain (it is called the Union Flag) consists of the red cross of Saint George, patron saint of England and patron saint of Scotland.

  Conclusion
  
  
  The goal of our work was to work out some modern means of studying British traditions, customs and holidays. In order to achieve this goal we had to examine first of all the main facts about British culture, its customs, traditions and holidays.
  In the beginning of the work we cited the main official symbols of Great Britain. They are the Union Flag, the national anthem - a patriotic song “God Save the Queen” and coat of arms - the shield divided into four quarters which represents England, Scotland and Ireland.
