  Introduction
  
  The present research is devoted to the analysis of the use of the Present Continuous, the Future Continuous and to be going to-structures as means of expressing futurity in British popular and quality newspapers. In modern linguistics the scientists often direct their attention to the problem of futurity expression. The reason for it is the fact the Future tense is one of the most disputable questions in English grammar. Moreover, means of its expression can be different on grammatical level as well as on other language levels. The most interesting means of futurity expression in the modern English language are the tense forms of the Future Continuous and the Present Continuous and to be going to-structure. The topicality of the present research consists of the fact that British quality and popular press can perform differences in the expressions of futurity. Little research has been done on this topic.
  The object of the present research is the category of futurity.
  The subject of the research is grammatical means of expressing futurity such as the Continuous tense forms and to be going to-structures.

  1.1. Verb as a part of speech in the modern English language
  1.1.1. Verb categories
  
  In modern English Grammar a verb is a definite part of speech which main function is to describe and denote some action. Thus, a verb is defined as “a part of speech which expresses the grammatical meaning of an action, i.e. the dynamic features taking place in time” [5, p. 46-47].
  Verb operates several grammatical categories. According to M.Ya. Blokh, we should distinguish six verbal categories:
  1) category of tense;
  2) category of aspect;
  3) category of voice;
  4) category of mood;
  5) category of person;
  6) category of number [1, p. 166].
  Nevertheless, not every category of English verb is actively used in the modern English language. Thus, the categories of tense, aspect, voice and mood are strict developed in modern language, but the categories of person and number are residual, declining, as I.P. Ivanova says [5, p. 50]. It is a very disputable question, if we can consider them to be verb categories at all. The reason for disputes is the fact that the categories of person and number are used restricted. Thus, in the Past Indefinite tense these categories are not used, except of the verb “to be”.
  Still, some linguists say about the existence of the categories of persons and number in the modern English language. Moreover, these categories are treated by the linguists as closely related categories. In general, the English language operates three persons and two numbers. The Past tenses have not any person or number category (I came – he came, I came – we came). But the verb “to be” has the category of number in the past tense (was – were), and in the present tenses it has both analyzed categories (am – is – are) [5, p. 50-51].
