  INTRODUCTION
  The study of Americanization of British English has a long history, but, despite this, does not lose its sharpness and relevance. The language of the press is defined by scientists as a reflector of linguistic, social and cultural changes. It is here that everything new is reflected. Therefore, the study of phenomena connected with the language of the press can never be obsolete. The press is a kind of player, putting on the reader"s language taste. It is no accident that every newspaper publication tries to form its readership. In connection with social stratification, there is also a kind of stratification of newspaper publications seeking to find their functional niche in the field of mass communication. This stratification is manifested in the specialization of newspapers, namely: in the specialization of subjects, headings, the manner of presentation of material and the organization of the newspaper text, which together reflects the social orientation of the newspaper edition. In turn, social orientation predetermines the "linguistic specialization" of the newspaper, calculated for a certain language taste. At present, one can’t speak of the language of the newspaper as a homogeneous phenomenon.
  The study of borrowings in the host language system is usually associated with the consideration of questions about language contacts. At the same time, the social approach to the interpretation of borrowed lexical units is decisive. Traditionally, borrowing is interpreted as the result of language contacts; while the first impetus to borrowing is given by bilinguals, determining the language policy in the field of newly arrived units. Initially, borrowing can’t be defined as a homogeneous phenomenon. ....................

  1.1 The Relationship between American and British English
  Differences between American English and English of other English-speaking countries were noticed and recognized in the 19th century. Then American English was recognized as the norm, and Americanizms lost the reputation of "bad English". It becomes the norm only when it is registered in the dictionaries of the national language. It was in the 19th century, there were dictionaries that register Americanizms. The dictionary by S. Johnson and J. Elliot was published in 1800, where borrowings in American English have already been fixed and the first American toponyms have been registered. During the first decade of the 19th century, several prescriptive dictionaries were published, in which the new "American spelling" and the pronunciation norm were officially proclaimed for the first time. Such works as The dictionary by C. Alexander and H. Priest (The Young Ladies" Pocket Companion, 1806), they were based on old British publications, served as a kind of herald of the dictionary by N. Webster, whom now rightfully considered the first American lexicographer. In 1828, the dictionary of the American English by Noah Webster was published, where for the first time the difference between American English and British English was systematized in terms of word usage and pronunciation. It was N. Webster who was able to approve American English as the norm, in contrast to his predecessors, reflecting in his large-scale work the features of a new spelling, pronunciation, usage; he registered a large number of borrowings [32. p.63] . However, the true nature of the relationship between the British English and the American English is still a matter of debate. .............
