  Introduction
  
  The research of peculiarities of different variants of the English language is today one of the most topical themes of investigation. It is linked with the fact that nowadays the English language is considered to be a global language of crosscultural communication. Consequently, it is studied by representatives of different countries. Every variant of the English language has its own specific peculiarities which can occur on different language levels including phonetic, lexical and grammatical levels. But in modern situation characterized by globalization processes different variants of English interact and penetrate into each other during the process of crosscultural communication. This situation is observed in Scottish variant which is mostly influenced by British English. On the other hand, British English is also affected by Scottish English and changes its main language features.
  Consequently, the topicality of the present research consists in the necessity for systematization of facts of English variants interaction in the process of crosscultural communication.
  The aim of the research is to analyze the process of interaction of Scottish and British English in modern crosscultural communication.
  The tasks of the present research are the following:
  1. To examine main variants of the English language.
  2. To study the history of evolution of British and Scottish English.
  3. To characterize crosscultural communication as the main factor of interaction of English variants.
  4. To analyze peculiarities of Scottish English on different language levels.
  5. To investigate peculiarities of British English on different language levels.
  6. To make a comparative analysis of interaction peculiarities in Scottish and British English.

  Chapter 1. Variants of English: History and Modern Times
  1.1. Main Variants of the English Language
  
  English language is used today in many spheres of human activities, such as in the field of international relations as an official language of UNO, British Commonwealth, European Union, NATO and other organizations which have an international nature. English language is the main foreign language for learning in other countries. As V.S. Nesterenko states, this fact is closely connected with the processes of globalization and the world status of the modern English language [Нестеренко 2011, p. 48].
  All people think that English is everywhere in the modern period of time. But in fact, that is not true. Most of the people on Earth do not use English. It is by no means a universal language. Perhaps twenty-five percent of the earth’s population uses English for some purpose in their lives. Consequently, seventy-five percent do not. It is however interesting that often those who do use English are the best educated and the most influential members of their society. Indeed, the spread, status and functions of English around the world are impressive. In recorded human history no other language has had such a position [Kachru, Smith 2008, p. 1]
  English is used by people from different countries like Korea, Thailand or Switzerland just to speak with Americans, Britons or Australians. English is increasingly used by people from Asia to interact with those from Europe, and people from South America to interact with people from Africa. English is frequently used among interlocutors when no so-called native speakers of English are presented. The contexts for the use of English may be academic conferences, business, commerce, diplomacy, educational institutions, manufacturing, mining, print or audio-visual media, tourism, etc.
