  The study of peculiarities of linguistic terminology formation in the English and Russian languages is very topical today. First of all, the problem of definition of the notions “term” and “terminology” is still an open issue. Although the question of terminology is studied in different Russian and foreign scientific works, still there is no unique definition of these notions. More over, terminology is examined from different aspects. This fact influences the results of modern researches too. Linguistic terminology as a system of terms in the sphere of linguistics is also of great interest for many scientists. In connection with the said above we can confirm the topicality of our investigation.
  Conclusion
  
  In order to achieve the aim of the present work we have solved several tasks.
  First, we have examined the essence of terminology and its peculiarities and found out that term is a very difficult notion for definition. The optimal definition, from our point of view, is the following: term is a lexical unit consisting of one or more than one word which represents a concept inside a domain and differentiates from common language units by its monosemy, tendency towards steadiness, absence of variability, basic purpose, subject, users, communicative situation, types of discourse, semantics, weakening of asymmetry of linguistic signs, absence of systemic oppositions, limitation of some syntagmatic meanings of terms, and co-occurrence.
