  INTRODUCTION
  
  The language of fiction is sometimes mistakenly referred to as the literary language; some scientists consider it to be one of the functional styles of the literary language. However, in reality, fiction speech is characterized by the fact that all language means can be used here, and not only the units of functional varieties of the literary language, but also the elements of colloquial speech, social and professional jargons, local dialects. The selection and use of these tools writer subordinates aesthetic purposes, which he seeks to, achieve the creation of his work.
  In a literary text, various means of linguistic expression are fused into a single, stylistically and aesthetically justified system, to which normative assessments applied to individual functional styles of the literary language are not applicable.
  How a literary text combines various linguistic means, what stylistic devices the writer uses, how he "translates" concepts into images, composes the subject of the stylistics of fiction speech.

  CHAPTER 1. A STYLISTIC DEVICE AS A MEANS OF EXPRESSING ARTISTIC STYLE
  
  1.1 Style of Fiction
  
  The last decades have been marked by the rapid development of all branches of Linguistics. Such a relatively young science as Stylistics is no exception. It can be called young because, despite the very long tradition of using this term. Stylistics have long developed within the framework of either rhetoric, poetry, or philology in general, and as an independent discipline, it did not stand out. Meanwhile, the works of A. M. Peshkovsky, L. V. Scherby, V. V. Vinogradov, G. O.Vinokur and other scientists showed that the term “stylistics” undifferentiated combines at least three independent “Stylistics”, each which has its own special subject matter. In particular, V.V. Vinogradov, identifies "three different circles of research, closely adjoining, often mutually intersecting and always correlative, but endowed with their own problematic, their own tasks, their own criteria and categories": stylistics of language, stylistics of speech and stylistics of the language of fiction [5, p.5].
