  INTRODUCTION
  
  The present study is devoted to the examination of stylistic devices in headlines of English newspapers and equivalence of their translation into Russian. The problem of usage of stylistic devices in the headlines of newspapers is today very topical in linguistics because stylistic device is an expressive and figurative means frequently used by the journalists in different function: to attract the recipients’ attention, to make the headline more interesting and amusing, to stimulate the recipients to read the newspaper article. The problem of translation of stylistic devices from English into Russian is also very topical today. The reason of the topicality of this research theme is the absence of a strict scheme of translation methods used for the translation of these or those stylistic devices, especially when they are used in newspaper headlines in specific functions mentioned above.
  On the basis of the foregoing, we can confirm the topicality of the theme of the present study.
  The objective of the study is to make an analysis of stylistic devices in headlines of English newspapers and equivalence of their translation into Russian.
  To achieve this aim, some tasks must be solved:
  1) To reveal the notion of stylistic devices in stylistics and their use in newspapers;

  1.1 The Notion of Stylistic Devices
  
  Different types of mass media are characterized by the use of stylistic devices in different functions. Therefore it is important to examine the notion of stylistic devices according to the prominent linguists.
  It must be first of all noticed that the application of stylistic devices in human communication is a natural process. Language units are used in speech and texts not only to express their primary meaning but also to develop new features and new senses creating expressive and emotional utterances [34, p. 31].
  The origins of stylistic devices can be traced back to the ancient times. Initially stylistic devices were associated with the law and verbal oratory. Their main function was persuasion. In mediaeval rhetorical books people were taught to deliver arguments with the help of stylistic devices [36, p. 171].
  Before we give a definition to the notion “stylistic device”, we should correlate the notions of style and stylistic device. Style can concern a system of special stylistic devices in a certain way. This conclusion can be made, according to the fact that stylistic perception is formed in people’s minds by special devices. Nevertheless, stylistic perception can be formed also by minor features of language [17, p. 7]. So, the style of a text is not only a succession of stylistic devices used in it. It is the whole system of stylistic devices and expressive means of the language performing expressive, emotional and other functions.
