  INTRODUCTION
  
  The present study is devoted to the investigation of particularities of translation onomatopoeia and sound symbolism at translating of literary texts. The term “onomatopoeia” is one of the terms used in modern linguistics. But there are also some other terms to denote the same linguistic phenomenon, such as “ideophone”, mimetics, expressives [42, p. 2], echoism [33, p. 706]. In the present research we will use the most used and convenient linguistic term – “onomatopoeia”. This term is of Greek origin, were “onoma” denoted ‘name’ and “poeia” denoted ‘make, create’ [20, p. 14]. So, according to etymology of this notion, onomatopoeia is a creation of names (words). As for the term “sound symbolism”, it is not fully investigated in modern linguistics. Very often notion of sound symbolism is mixed with the notion of onomatopoeia. The reason of it is similar nature of these language phenomena.

  1.1 Definition of the Notion “Onomatopoeia”
  
  The study of onomatopoeic lexical units in different languages has a long history. In ancient times people attached a mysterious meaning to sounds. Perhaps, such attitude concerned the possibility of sounds to evoke definite association. Thus, today many people consider high-pitched sounds to associate with something bright and low-pitched sounds with sometime dark [15, p. 104].
  The question of the close link between sound and meaning was investigated even by ancient Greek philosophers. In their philosophical works we can find the background of research of sound and meaning link. More over, this question was investigated also by the thinkers of medieval times (for instance, Thomas Aquinas), scientists of the 17th-19th centuries (for instance, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, M.V. Lomonosov). Great amount of onomatopoeic words attracted attention of many famous linguists such as Friedrich von Humboldt [6], Hermann Paul [17] and many others. The investigation of A.A. Potebnja devoted to the inner form of the word is also important for the research of onomatopoeia. The scientist believes that inner form of a word is a relation of the content of the though to the mind which shows people’s cognition [18, p. 98]. But the outburst of attention to the problem of onomatopoeia and sound symbolism, in particular in English, is observed only in the second half of the 20th century.
